UI is not raising your rates by 12%, despite what you may have heard. At UI, we strive to be transparent and advocate for our customers’ best interest and we want to provide clarity on the matter.
GET THE FACTS:
PUBLIC BENEFIT
CHARGES
IT'S NOT US, IT'S POLICYMAKERS.
Here is the truth: UI is required by law to incur certain costs and pass them on to customers. These state-mandated costs are increasing by 12%. We don’t make even one cent of profit on these costs. Contrary to widespread misinformation, none of this increase will contribute to UI’s revenue. We want to dispel the myth that these increases will benefit our investors – they do not.
We have urged decision-makers including the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA), to limit the impact of these costs on customers – and we will continue to do so.
Working together with state policymakers, we can explore alternative funding options, such as utilizing the remaining COVID relief funds or other strategies to lessen the impact for our customers.
UI is responsible for collecting these state-mandated costs through the Public Benefits portion of your electric bill. Eliminating or reducing these costs is out of our control. We encourage our customers to contact the Office of the Attorney General, the Office of the Consumer Counsel, and your local elected officials to make your voice heard and urge them to take action to prevent or limit this increase. We all need to work together to deliver cost-efficient solutions now and in the future.
